For about 6 months I have been trying to help a Vietnam vet. who has been "missing in America" for 20 years locate his father. We met obstacles at every corner until i "just surfed on in" to this site. What was a trying, frustrating task at best for me seemed a menial chore to you and with only a name, last known address and branch of service to go on, Bud was reunited with his father in Rockledge, Florida in less than 24 hours. Thank-you for your sacrifices and dedication not only on the battlefield but also on the homefront. Your unwavering support to the veteran's will live in my heart forever. In the way of my Native American traditions...Ajo.

Comments: Looking for anyone who was in Navy bootcamp at Orlando, Florida in 1969. I was in company 173 and Commander Cousins was our illustrious leader. I've been fortunate, thanks in great part to this computer to find a slew of shipmates from VAL-4 when I was in Vietnam in 1970. I remember, before I realized what it really meant, that several buddies were to be medics..I wonder how many survived? These were a bunch of special guys, and I hope they are all well. I actually think of 173 often, but never pursued looking anyone up. So, if anyone sees this and you want to respond, I'll be glad to hear from you.

Comments: First, I would like to thank you for the quick replies to previous emails. Makes one feel as though they are getting personal service. I am interested in locating anyone that served aboard the USS WASP CVS-18 between 1956 & 1959. Especially anyone that was in R Div during that period. There is one that I would like some help with finding for the second time. His name is James J. Hawthorne. Jim was born, I believe, in PA, Aug. 1937. I believe that he still has relatives there. He also lived in the Washington D.C. area at the time of his enlistment. I first found JIm, after 4 years of searching, living in Cape Canaveral, FL. Two months later in August 1996 he and a couple of his friends left for Honduras to fish for Shark. The name of the 40 ft. boat that they sailed on was FOXX. I have what service records that they would release under the Freedom of Information Act. I do know that he served in Vietnam and that he was a diver at that time. His rate when he served aboard the WASP was Shipfitter Pipefitter 3rd Class. He served aboard the USS SARATOGA after leaving the WASP. Jim left the Navy after 12 years of service. His Service # 478-94-03. If there is anyone out there that has any info please contact me. He said that he might just stay in Hondura if things work out. He did say that if he come back he would locate to the Pocomo Mts. in PA.

They are looking forward to hearing from you! Also, since most of these guys are relatively new to the internet, I hope that EVERYONE will take a minute to drop by the message board and welcome them! The FC Vietnam Veterans have managed to show support for Vietnam Veterans nationwide in bringing The Moving Wall to Rome, seeing to it that a Vietnam Veteran's Memorial was erected here at The Forum, in downtown Rome, and making the trek to D.C. in November, among the other many things they do that are too numerous to list here.. PLEASE HELP show support for these guys and let them know that, even though their group is small, they are BY NO MEANS insignificant and will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN! Thanks in advance! You may want to stop by & visit some old friends while you're here! Sincerely, JCross

I am impressed with the info offered and the success that you seem to be having in finding former comrades. Is this where one would enter the iinfomation that they have for the search. I would like to locate shipmates to notify them of the USS WASP Association. I have in the past located serveral myself. It was a long and expensive proposition. But, worth it. There is one shipmate that I wish to relocate. It is a long story but I had located him. I saw him a couple of times and he left the country to fish for sharks in Hondura. If you think that you can help me in this area I will send you what info that I have on him. Keep up the good work and have a Happy Thanksgiving

FRED THOMPSON heroically adopted my uncle to save him. My uncle shined shoes around the Camp Page area. I think they moved to Stockbridge Georgia. Last known address was around Hwy 41 in Stockbridge. Last heard from them in 1961. They may have moved to Orlando or Miami Florida around that time. KUN HWA may have had his name changed to either an American or Latino name. I'm desperately seeking KUN HWA on behalf of his older sister Kun Sun (my mom) and his older brother Kun Dok, who is very ill. We had both been in the 8055th MASH and the 121st evac hospital about the same time. The last time I saw my buddy :-) , was November 26th 1953. Jack and Rich put us together again at the Veterans Day Parade in New York City November 11th 1999. Mayor Rudy Giuliani was on hand to be the first to congratulate and re-unite us. But if it had not been for Jack and Rich and veteransearch.com this beautiful event would not, could not have happened. My sincere thanks to them and my best to them both. If there is a veteran out there in search of a buddy, get in touch with Veteransearch.com. You will be happy you did. Jack, Rich, from the bottom of my heart, THANKS

Comments: I am doing this search for my brother-in-law. His name is Samuel D. (Junior) Faulkner. He served in Korea during 1952 & 1953. He was a lineman in the 31st infantry, 8th army HQ. He was in the 31st infantry when they "lost colors" then he became a part of the 8th army, if I understand rightly. He is looking for some of his buddies. He has not had contact with them since he was discharged. I actually have very little to go on, but here goes. Fred Fredericks, probably from Oakland, CA, W.C. Wright, probably from Virginia, Russell Huddelston from Weedowee AL. They served under a Col. Smith. They were on Hill 347 and Pork Chop Hill was to the right and Old Baldy was directly in front of them. Everyone one knew him as Junior. He would like to find these and others if possible. Please have them get in touch with me at my e-mail address, as I am the one with the computer. Thank-you!!!! And GOD B LESS EVERYONE that has fought for our freedom. My Father (Gilbert C. Yarbrough, Jinx) was in the 8th Air Force during WWII If there is anyone out there that remembers him, I would like to hear from them myself. Thanks again.

Comments: To all veterans: **THANK YOU** for responding when our country called. Freedom isn't free but I can enjoy it thanks to the sacrifices that were and are being made by those are able to read this post and those that cannot. Although I've never served in the military, I'm VERY PROUD and thankful for those that have paid the price with their service; some having paid the ultimate price.

Gary, if you happen to see this I'm thinking of you now- 'thanks'.

Comments: LEOPOLDVILLE TROOPSHIP DISASTER DECEMBER 24, 1944 I am the author of S.S. Leopoldville Disaster December 24, 1944, published by Tern Book Co. Refer customer comments Amazon & Borders Books web sites. There were 763 American soldiers from the 66th Infantry Division killed on Christmas Eve 1944 when their Belgian troopship was torpedoed in the English Channel. The dead represented American soldiers from 47 of the then 48 states. There were three sets of brothers killed including two sets of twins. The bodies of both sets of twins were among the 493 bodies never found. The families were lied too. They were told missing in action and little more. Even today, nearly 55 years after the incident, hundreds of American families still do not know the true circumstances of the catastrophe that took their loved ones life. A monument upon which are engraved the names of all 763 confirmed dead in alphabetical order by state was dedicated on 11/7/1997 at Ft. Benning, GA known as the home of the Infantry. All 763 names were taken directly from the In Memoriam section of my book. To learn more about the Leopoldville Disaster visit the Leopoldville exhibit page on Historychannel web site. Click on exhibits, then list of ALL exhibits. I am available to assist any American family still trying to learn how there relative really died at Christmas 1944. (Families were told soldiers were killed 12/25 but the incident really occured on 12/24/1944.) There is no charge for my research time. Concerned families may e-mail me at [email protected]. He was in 2nd Cav and was at first ruled MIA and later His Status changed to KIA, But his remains were never found. I am hoping that someone out there may have served with him or knew him. The original letter to my grandmother received stated he volounteered to stay behind and help to cover the 2nds retreat. They awarded him the Silver Star posthoumusely, and it was speculated he may have become a P.O.W. I hope there may still be someone out there who might know anything at all. My father is growing ill, and I would like to give him some closure before he meets him again above.

A couple of my buddies were James Kirk and George Kornacki. We all were talked into extending our tour as we were promised staff sgt. stripes and that we would be kept back at hdqtrs.to train new arrivals. HA! We all were sent back out in the field and none of us ever got our stripes either! Typical! James was about 5ft.5or6 inches tall and a nice looking kid. George was probably about 6ft. and wore glasses like I did. I think James came from Ohio or Indiana . Can`t recall where George came from. Comments: First of all, what a beautiful web site and graphics/sound combination! I contacted Jack and the AVS team in regards to location of my friends from my unit in Vietnam. The NEXT DAY!! I received an e-mail from Jack giving me the phone number of a [then] major who had been pivotal in changing my MOS which turned out to save my life, literally! I am a born again christian and praise God as well as commend Jack and the entire AVS Team for everything they are doing! Thanks! I look forward to becoming a member soon!

Comments: Sterling (Sterl) D. Conover was my Dad. He joined the Marines 12/43 in Platoon 910 Parris. He went overseas to the S. Pacific 3/44 and was on Saipan, Tinian, Iwo Jima and Guam with the V Amphibious. After VJ day he spent until 3/46 as the Corporal in charge of the PX on Guam. I don't know his division, etc. due to censorship of letters and his reluctance to talk about it later. Buddies mentioned are: Phil Guenthner, Jim Cole, Joe Bradley, Carl Roth. Does anyone remember him? I am a history teacher, and would like to share where he was and what he did with my kids, who never knew him. The more I research, the prouder I am.
